A close up of some flowers in the grassAugust in the Midwest. Last year we had record 100 degree+ temps and a drought. This year it hasn’t stopped raining and the temps are all over the place! The last couple days have brought 6 inches of rain, and my kitty Boots has been sitting on the porch hoping for the rain to end so he can go out and play. All this rain brings two things we hate: biting mosquitoes and crazy humidity which wreaks havoc with everyone’s hair. However, the benefits of the rain include not having to water my gardens (which by the way are filled with the most beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen), and making my dry skin feel a whole lot better.

As you may already know, drinking lots of water really helps our skin – hydrating from the inside out. However, our skin is also affected by the humidity in the air. When it ‘s dry outside our skin gives up its moisture to the air. This is particularly true for those with dry skin problems, and many of us over age 45 who are experiencing hormonally effected dry skin. When the air is holding more moisture, it helps our skin cells hang on to hydration which helps our skin look softer and younger. Wonderful!

So, quit fighting the humidity – throw your hair in a pony or scrunch in some product and quit trying to tame those curls! Just go with the flow – your skin is loving this rain and humidity!
